Last Wednesday the 11th, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, admitted that the emergency help it can be paid again next year for the low-income population. However, only if the country goes through a new wave of coronavirus.
According to the minister, the 64 million digital accounts already created by Caixa Econômica Federal would facilitate a new payment process. He also stated that spending on the pandemic already amounts to more than 8% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“We made it very clear to everyone. If there is a second wave in Brazil, we already have the mechanisms. We digitized 64 million Brazilians. We know who they are, where they are and what they need to survive. If a second wave hits us, then we will increase more (expenses), ”said the minister.
However, spending would be at lower levels in the event of a new growth in pollution. Instead of 8% of GDP, we will probably (use) half this time. Because we can filter the excesses and certainly use lower values, ”he said.
Fiscal responsibility
The minister also declared that the economy is in decline and that there will be no justification for more spending outside of the need for economic assistance to Brazilian workers affected by the crisis. “What we are definitely not going to do is use an illness as an excuse to make irresponsible political movements.”
And he added: “We can spend a little more. Exactly because people understand that we have to return to the previous situation as soon as the disease leaves us. We are ready to act if the disease returns, but we certainly will not act [dessa forma] if she leaves, ”he declared.
Expansion of emergency aid
Initially, emergency aid was launched in the amount of R $ 600 in three installments and then the payment was extended for another two months in the same amount. In September, the benefit was increased in another four installments but at half the amount, R $ 300.
