The 2020 United States presidential elections were “the safest in American history”, according to an official statement published on Thursday (12) by senior officials of the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Agency. The agency is linked to the Department of Homeland Security, which is part of the United States government itself.
“The November 3 election was the safest in US history. Right now, across the country, election officials are reviewing and verifying the entire electoral process before finalizing the outcome,” the statement said.
The statement contradicts the claims of President Donald Trump, a Republican candidate who does not accept defeat in the reelection bid and insists that there has been fraud in the country. Democrat Joe Biden was declared the winner of the contest according to projections from institutes that have been working in the US elections for decades.
Still, according to the document, “there is no evidence that any voting system has excluded or lost votes, altered votes, or been compromised in any way,” contrary to what Trump says.
Some Republicans advocate for Biden’s access to information needed for the transition
“While we know that there are many unfounded complaints and opportunities for misinformation about our electoral process, we can assure you that we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and so do you,” officials added in their statement.
“When in doubt, turn to election officials as trusted voices in managing elections,” they wrote.
The officials who sign the declaration form the Government Election Infrastructure Coordination Council, a group of election administrators and federal agencies responsible for overseeing electoral security in the United States.
Last week, even before projections gave Biden victory, the Organization of American States (OAS), which monitors electoral processes across the continent, had already declared that the US elections were held without major irregularities.

Although Trump’s allies insist on not acknowledging Biden’s victory, some Republican politicians admit that the president-elect should have access to national security documents with a transition in sight.
Administration officials should allow the data transfer to begin, but Trump has yet to signal. The Republican’s hope is that some of the various lawsuits against the electoral system in the states will reverse the outcome that brought victory to Biden.
Some GOP politicians have turned away from Trump and already see Biden as president-elect. This is the case with the governors of Ohio and New Hampshire, who ask supporters to be realistic about the response on the ballot.
