The announcement was made by Governor João Doria during a press conference. As noted in the first version of the 2021 season calendar released by F1 this week, the race will take place on the weekend of November 12-14. Exactly one year from now.

“I am proud to reveal, with [prefeito de São Paulo] Bruno Covas, that Formula 1 has just renewed its contract for the F1 Brazilian GP until 2025, ”said Doria. “The contract will be signed by Mayor Covas with Liberty Media,” he said.

“It is a great victory for the city of São Paulo, for the state and for Brazil. It is the victory of common sense and balance ”, he argued.

Mayor Covas said the event will no longer be called GP do Brasil and will become GP de São Paulo, although this information has not yet been confirmed by Liberty Media.

The announcement ends the discussions that came to treat Interlagos as a card outside of the Brazilian GP at one point. Part of an initiative that aimed to force the Deodoro racetrack project, including direct lobbying from CEO Chase Carey, in a letter addressed to the interim governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro.
