Officially announced as Inter’s new coach, Abel Braga was greeted with a party by Colorado fans at the Salgado Filho airport in Porto Alegre. The coach embarked in the morning in Rio de Janeiro and arrived in the state capital around 11:30 am.
Abel will sign a contract with the club until February 2021, when the current season ends. He replaces Eduardo Coudet, who resigned on Sunday night to take over for Celta de Vigo of Spain.

The champion coach of the Libertadores and the Inter World Cup was received by about 20 fans shouting “Abel, darling!” and “longing, Abelão”. One of them won a cap with the inscription “2006”, alluding to the great achievements of the club. There was a moment of huddling around the technician, but they were all wearing masks.

The coach will be presented this Tuesday afternoon and already commands the training in sequence at the Parque Gigante Training Center, which ends the preparation for the confrontation against América-MG, valid for the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil.
Chosen to replace Eduardo Coudet, who left for Celta de Vigo, Abel will bring the faithful squire Leomir de Souza as his assistant. At the Rio Grande do Sul club, he will meet with the physical trainer Cristiano Nunes and the goalkeeping coach Daniel Pavan, who were already part of Eduardo Coudet’s committee.
The coach returns to the club after six years. Abel’s last stint at Inter occurred in 2014, when Gauchão won and finished at Brasileirão in third place. At that time, the current president Marcelo Medeiros was the vice president of soccer.

It will be Abel’s seventh time in Colorado. The first occurred between 1988 and 1989. He returned in 1991 and, later, 1995. He returned in 2006 to the most outstanding period, when he led the team to the Libertadores and Mundial titles. He left in 2007 to return the same year. And in 2014, he coached Inter the last time before his current comeback.
Inter seeks to regularize Abel’s name in the Daily Bulletin of the CBF (IDB) on Tuesday so that the coach is on the reserve bench against América-MG. The match with Coelho, valid for the first match of the quarterfinals of the Brazil Cup, will be played at 9:30 p.m. this Wednesday.
