President Jair bolsonaro suggested Tuesday, without presenting facts or evidence, that the Coronavac causes “death, disability and abnormality”. In response to an Internet user on Facebook, the president affirmed that the case is another case in which he “wins” the governor of São Paulo, João Doria, who participates in the studies with the vaccine of Chinese origin.
“Death, disability, anomaly. This is the vaccine that Dória (sic) wanted to force all São Paulo citizens to take. The president said the vaccine could never be mandatory. One more that Jair Bolsonaro wins, ”the president wrote.

The comment was posted along with a news link that reported suspension of immunization tests as determined by the Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to analyze the possible adverse reaction of a volunteer participating in the tests. A similar measure had already been taken in the trials of the Oxford vaccine, which has an agreement with the federal government.
The surveillance agency reported last Monday night that it determined the interruption of the clinical study of the Coronavac vaccine in Brazil after the occurrence of a serious adverse event. The adverse effect in question was the death of a 33-year-old volunteer, resident in São Paulo, on October 29.
State health authorities received the information on Monday that the death is not related to the vaccine, although there is no public data, such as whether the volunteer had received a dose of the immunizer or a placebo.
The director of the Butantan Institute, Dimas Covas, told TV Cultura that the case had nothing to do with Coronavac and that, therefore, he was surprised by the agency’s decision. “Anvisa was notified of a death, not of an adverse effect.”
Covas said that among the thousands of study participants, deaths could occur from causes unrelated to the vaccine, such as traffic accidents. In drug and vaccine studies, even these types of accidents need to be reported.
“We even find this decision by Anvisa a bit strange because it is a death not related to the vaccine,” he said during the Jornal da Cultura. Covas asked Anvisa for clarification during the live broadcast.
Bolsonaro has already made other clashes with Doria about the vaccine that the Sino-Brazilian association is developing. The president even disapproved of an agreement between the Ministry of Health and the state of São Paulo for the purchase of 46 million doses of Coronavac. In response, on the occasion, Doria described Bolsonaro’s attitude as criminal if he denies access to any vaccine approved by Anvisa against covid-19.
Doria is considered by the Planalto Palace as a potential opponent in the 2022 elections.
In another episode, Bolsonaro invested against Doria because the toucan defended mandatory vaccination against the coronavirus in São Paulo. And the official also said that he did not consider Coronavac trustworthy because of its “origin”, referring to China.
