Flamengo dismisses the coach and his commission

Domènec Torrent is no longer Flamengo’s coach. In office just over three months ago, the Catalan could not resist the defeat suffered by Atlético-MG, last Sunday, in Mineirão, and was fired. The contract between the parties was valid until the end of next year

There were 24 games ahead of the Rubro-Negra team, with 14 wins, four draws and six losses. During this period, the team scored 42 goals and conceded 36. The farewell comes after great pressure in the face of two consecutive victories in the Brazilian Championship, 4-0 for Gallo and 4-1 for São Paulo.

Dome arrived in Gávea at the end of July with the mission to replace the Portuguese Jorge Jesus. He accepted after the board went to Europe and evaluated names like the Spanish Fernando Hierro and the Portuguese José Peseiro and Carlos Carvalhal.

The start in Flamengo was shocking and full of doubts – The rotation implemented in the starting lineup has always been a topic of discussion.. The 5-0 loss to Independiente del Valle de Ecuador in the Libertadores had already put Dome on the edge. However, shortly after, Fla managed to build an undefeated streak and lighten the mood.

Even with good results, Domènec never reached unanimity between the fans and even some members of the board. The recent negative results ended up becoming the last straw for the end of the relationship.

Now, the leadership returns to the ball market to find a new coach. On Wednesday, Flamengo will face São Paulo in the first match of the Brazilian Cup quarterfinals, and Maurício Souza should be on the edge of the field in the duel.

Gávea’s team occupies third place in the Brazilian Championship, with 35 points, as well as being in the knockout stages of the Libertadores, a phase in which they will face Racing, from Argentina.

See Flamengo’s note:

“The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo reports that Domènec Torrent and his coaching staff no longer lead the club’s main team.

The activity of the main team next Tuesday (10) will be commanded by Maurício Souza ”.
