Without Silvio Santos or a goal, ‘different’ Telethon fulfills its mission with donations Actualidad TV

Teleton 2020 was different, as the presenters who passed through the stage during the ten hours of solidarity marathon made a highlight this Saturday (7). The show didn’t have a fundraising goal, it was done without a live audience, and for the first time Silvio Santos didn’t appear. Still, the charitable mission was accomplished.

When the program ended, at 8:30 p.m., the scoreboard indicated a value of more than R $ 26.7 million in donations. It is true that a good part of this amount was offered by companies, which became known as the “check troop” in the attraction, one of the companies delivered R $ 5 million.

In a breach of tradition, Silvio Santos did not close the 23rd edition of Teleton or appear by video message. Like Carlos de Alberto de Nóbrega and Raúl Gil, the owner of SBT is still away from the station’s studies because he belongs to the Covid-19 risk group.

The last hour of the solidarity marathon was for the Abravanel family: Rebeca, Silvia, Patricia and Tiago. The former presenter of Bom Dia & Cia had also attended the opening in the morning.

Godmother of the AACD (Association for the Attention of Disabled Children), Eliana was the one who spent the longest time on stage. Just before saying goodbye to the heirs to take over the program, he starred in an unusual moment.

The presenter received a message on the electronic point informing that an anonymous businessman had called SBT to offer a donation of R $ 1 million. On the web, Internet users pointed to Silvio Santos as responsible for the good deed.

“I’m getting information here. Can I really talk? I’ve never seen it happen,” the presenter began. “He is an anonymous donor, a businessman, who made a donation in the amount of R $ 1 million”, celebrated Eliana.

As a preventive measure against the coronavirus, Teleton 2020 did not have artists performing on stage either, the only one was compatriot Daniel, godfather of the attraction, who acted as presenter. Ivete Sangalo also came out live, but through a link made from her home in Salvador.

Some artists submitted excerpts of lives that were streamed on YouTube, and others submitted exclusive videos singing on behalf of AACD.

For health reasons, Teleton 2020 ended up being a dull and lukewarm TV show. The attraction did not feature the traditional games, the interaction of the artists with the children in the audience and the exciting stories told on stage.

However, even in a year of crisis caused by the pandemic, the marathon managed to fulfill the mission of delivering to the AACD a value very close to what was collected last year, when more than R $ 31 million were donated. The 2020 campaign runs until December 31.
