School bus driver Ademir dos Santos Domingues, 55, saw an anaconda snake, also known as an anaconda, almost eight meters long on a rural road in the Bela Alvorada district of Paraíso das Águas, 278 kilometers from Campo Grande (EM). The flagrant happened in the last 30 days and the video went viral on social networks.
The driver reports that he was returning from the São Francisco farm, where he had gone to deliver printed school activities for children who do not attend classes due to the covid-19 pandemic when, near a stream, they found the animal on one side of the road. highway.
The region where the snake was is known as Três Marias and Sucuri, precisely because the appearance of this species is common. But, according to Ademir, it is the first time a snake of this size has been found in the region.
“We were returning from the farm when I saw the trail of snakes on the road. I stopped the car and when I looked to the side I saw that large animal. It was huge and it seemed that it had eaten something and was there digesting it,” says the driver.
Scared and impressed by the size of the anaconda, Ademir decided to get out of the vehicle to record the presence of the animal in videos and photos. He says he was a meter from the snake. To protect the animal, he even threw some dirt so that it would enter the forest and not risk being run over.
“It is common for us to find a snake around here, but I had never seen this size before. As it was very quiet, I approached it. I was worried, because a car passes there and it could be run over. So I wanted to get it out of there. At the moment, I didn’t think he could give me a boat. I don’t advise anyone to do what I did, because it can be dangerous, “he says.
Also according to the driver, initially, the video and photos taken were sent only to family and some friends. But within days the images had already gone viral.
“I think it attracted attention because of its size, right? It is not common to find a snake like this and when it began to enter the forest I saw that it was much larger than I thought. It is a very beautiful animal, ”he says.
Sucuri is one of the largest species
Anaconda is one of the largest snake species found in Brazil. They are not poisonous, that is, they do not have poison.
To hunt their prey, they wait on the banks of rivers and when the animals approach, they attack by squeezing the animal’s neck and then wrapping themselves around its body.
The species can measure up to 8 meters and weigh approximately 150 kilos.
