The victim of the accident that occurred this Friday afternoon (06) near Congonhas, on BR-040, was identified. The accident occurred at km 599 of the highway and killed Bruno Araújo, 54, from Belo Horizonte.
The accident
The incident occurred on the BR 040 downhill section towards Belo Horizonte-Congonhas, where a vehicle carrying heavy equipment was moving towards an “all-terrain” vehicle escorted by scouts and moving slowly.
One of the passenger cars behind had difficulty braking, causing a “domino effect” with several vehicles colliding. One of the trucks would have braked, but was collided by a BMW vehicle that was just behind, being pressed also by another truck, loaded with ore.
The BMW vehicle that Bruno, a victim of the accident, was driving, had a 42-year-old man with serious injuries as a ride and was from Contagem-MG.
Later, a Fox vehicle was parked by a 29-year-old man who had a 26-year-old woman as transportation, both from the capital of Minas Gerais. The accident involved an Up vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man who was hitchhiking a 39-year-old woman, both also from the capital of Minas Gerais.
These four people were rescued and sent to Hospitals in Conselheiro Lafaiete. A Renault Kwid vehicle had two victims who were rescued by firefighters, and they were sent to an ambulance from the Via 040 dealership.

The driver of the first Scania trailer, loaded with ore, was not at the scene and the driver of the company that owns the truck, who is responsible for the vehicle, was called. The other truck was driven by a 24-year-old man from São João Del Rei who was not injured.
Two other vehicles (an Up and a Fiat Uno) were struck sideways and showed only minor damage, with no casualties.
Firefighters noted the need to use a winch to rescue the 42-year-old man, who was trapped alive between BMW equipment, as well as to remove the victim’s body. The winch opened a small passage through which a team of firemen entered with an extractor that cut the hardware. The victim was removed in a very serious condition and was sent to the Fire Department ambulance, which then took him to a safe place where the Arcanjo helicopter from the Fire Department Air Force Battalion landed, which sent him to Hospital João XXIII from Belo Horizonte. , which is a reference in traumatized policemen.

The winch was also used to separate the trucks and vehicles that were pressed. Subsequently, the forensic examination was activated, which after the work released the lifting of the victim’s body.
Due to the accident, the highway was completely closed in both directions, being reviewed until 8:40 p.m. on Friday, a 16 km traffic jam towards Rio de Janeiro and 10 km towards Belo Horizonte.
There was a large oil and fuel spill on the runway and firefighters had to use sawdust to prevent further accidents.
According to information from the Concessionaire, the highway already has its normalized flow.
