A shooting near a synagogue in Vienna, the Austrian capital, left several wounded on Monday (2). According to the newspaper “Kronen Zeitung”, one person died.

The Interior Ministry classified the action as possible terrorist attack. A person suspected of involvement in the crime is under arrest, but the Austrian government said it believed other people were involved.

Until the last update of this report, there was no information on the identity of the injured, killed or detained. The motive for the attack is also unknown and whether it is related to other recent attacks such as those in France; for example, last week, three people were killed in a terrorist action in Nice.

On social media, the Vienna police asked people to stay home because, until 6:24 pm (Brasilia time), the search operation was still underway. The public transport system has been disrupted.

The Austrian agency APA, citing the Interior Ministry, said a police officer was shot and “seriously injured”. A person considered suspicious by authorities has been arrested, the Austrian government said.

According to the newspaper “Kronen Zeitung”, a person fired an explosive belt. Until the last update of this report, it was not known if there were more victims.

Oskar Deutsch, one of the representatives of the Jewish community in Austria, said on social media that he still did not know if the synagogue was the target of the attack; according to him, the temple was closed at the time of the action.
