‘He made mistakes that cannot be made,’ said Mano Menezes in a setback for Bahia

Bahia’s 3-1 defeat in Vila Belmiro against Santos this Sunday (1) had as major problems individual failures by name of the defense, coach Mano Menezes understood in the post-match press conference.

Despite this, the assessment is that the team played well in the general context. Also thinking about the sequence of the season, Mano assessed that maintaining this rhythm of action (with the necessary corrections to take advantage of the opportunities created) will bring the Squad closer to better results in the season:

– I don’t think we score goals due to failures in the defensive system. We scored goals due to individual failures, from players who played in the defensive system. It is something different. I think Bahia played a good game. When he loses, it is always very difficult for the coach to come here and say to his fans that Bahia played a good game. But Bahia created opportunities, wasted goals, kicked two balls off the post, had chances to get out of here, with the quality of the game they played, with a different result.

– You made mistakes that you can’t make. This has cost us important results. It’s been a tonic, we’ve been flirting with it. We took a goal that we couldn’t have taken, already in South America. This cost us a defeat. But I think that, if the team plays, on Thursday, it will play again what it played today, and adjusting these faults, we will pass the South American Championship and, later, we will win again in the Brazilian Championship – he added.

The Salvador team technician also spoke of the possibility of the team going to the market in search of new pieces as something in progress, but not being a “crutch” for the sequence of work that has to seek, precisely, to fill the needs with what you already have at your disposal:

– I would leave Santos here more concerned if we had not played anything, we had played a bad game, we would be here complaining about other things or pointing out other ways than the solutions we have within the squad. It does not mean that we are not looking for reinforcements. But it cannot be any reinforcement. Because they wouldn’t be reinforcements. As the name says, we must add to the group that is there, and that is what we are trying to do.
