The new Palmeiras coach says that his job should be different from that of Jorge Jesús, former Flamengo, and reveals conversation with Brazilians by choice
A few hours after being introduced as the new Palmeiras coach, Abel Ferreira said goodbye to Portugal this Sunday (1st), when he embarked for Brazil to follow in the footsteps of other compatriots who seek or have sought success in football here. The comparisons, however, stop there, in his opinion.

Speaking to reporters at the Porto airport, the professional made it clear that his work may have points in common – and also different – with names such as Jorge Jesús, former Flamengo, and Ricardo Sá Pinto, current commander of Vasco.
“We know what Portuguese coaches are capable of, we share knowledge so that each one can also contribute something. But then, in the field, everyone follows his ideas, his principles. And that’s what I’ll try to do, ”he said.
And, apparently, that sharing was less important in the choice of Palmeiras than the conversations with the Brazilian professionals that marked his career, inside and outside the four lines.
“Incredibly, I spoke with Brazilians more than with Portuguese. Paulo Autuori was the coach who promoted my debut in the Premier League. The coach who took me to the Portuguese team (for the tests) was (Luiz Felipe) Scolari, I had contact with Guto Ferreira and Thiago Larghi, who went to Braga to do an internship ”, he continued. “I have a great relationship with the Brazilians, so there is this curiosity.”
With his presentation scheduled for Monday 2, Abel did not delve much about the expectations and plans for Verdão. But he made clear how important the athletes’ contribution was and will continue to be to the team’s success.
“My career has advanced thanks to a lot of work, with the technical committee. Of course, there are no great players without great coaches, and you get to where your players want to go. If I went through all these stages it was because I had great players ”, said the boy.
This Monday (2), Palmeiras receives Atlético Mineiro, for the 19th round of Brasileirão. The game will take place at Allianz Parque, at 5 pm (Brasilia time). Abel will be in the stadium to watch the game, but he will not lead the team yet. Andrey ‘Cebola’ Lopes, who has even won a match with ‘Onionism’, will be the coach at the edge of the field.
