RecordTV Journalism Name Dies of Cardiac Arrest; announcer mourns the loss

The journalist died last Saturday, October 31 Octavio Hermanny Tostes, at 62 years old. He was in Rio de Janeiro and suffered a cardiac arrest. Tostes worked at Globo for 14 years and since 2011 he has been working at Rede Record. The journalist lived in São Paulo, but spent a few days on vacation in Rio.

According to the brother of Octavio Tostes, André Tostes, the journalist was typing on the computer around 9 am when he began to feel ill and had a heart attack. He graduated in journalism from the UFRJ – Faculty of Communication of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and joined the Globo group in 1981.

In 1987, the journalist was invited to work at the Jornal Nacional publishing house, at Globo Repórter, at Jornal da Globo, and also worked on big covers such as the 1989 presidential elections, Eco-92 and the Gulf War. In 1994, Tostes began to collaborate with CNN, working on the production of an international program, returning to Brazil in 1999, assuming command of the coordination of the Jornal Nacional in São Paulo.

In May 2000, he was transferred to Globo.com, remaining until June 2001, being the portal’s content administrator. Later, the journalist was present in other stations with Gazeta, Rede Amazônica and other important companies in the country. Since 2011, Tostes worked at RecordTV coordinating and writing the newscasts for Bishop Edir Macedo’s station.

The announcer deeply regretted having expressed his condolences to the relatives for the sudden death of journalist Octavio Tostes. The journalist was also a reporter, but he really stood out as an editor and in recent years he was executive editor of Jornal da Record.
