A report released on Thursday (29) by the Center for the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), concluded that adverse weather conditions and the indiscipline of flight of the pilots led to the accident of the plane that transported. According to Cenipa, Commanders Linaldo Xavier and Abrão Farias, who also died in the accident, took actions considered incorrect when flying the Piper Cherokee PT-KLO plane. Manufactured in 1974, the aircraft was not equipped with a meteorological radar and was not certified to fly under the Instrument Flight Rule (IFR), without authorization from ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency), to operate without Visual Flight Conditions ( VMC). ).

With 83h50m of flight experience, Linaldo Xavier had a Private Pilot license (PPR) from the Aeroclube de Alagoas (2017). Its qualification as a single-engine ground aircraft (MNTE) was valid. However, he was only qualified to fly in strictly visual conditions.

The investigation understood that not considering the procedures in this condition, “contributed to the exposure of the aircraft to a high risk of accident”, contributing to the air accident in Povoado Porto do Mato, in the municipality of Estância, in Sergipe.

The factors that motivated the accident, according to Cenipa, were: pilots’ attitude, adverse weather conditions, flight indiscipline, pilot’s judgment, flight planning, and decision-making process. To read the full report, click here.

The accident

The plane crashed on the morning of May 27, 2019 in the city of Estância, 100 kilometers from Aracaju, in Sergipe. The singer Gabriel Diniz, from the summer hit “Jenifer”, was the only passenger on board, along with two other pilots; all three died in the tragedy. Friends of the singer recognized his body at the scene of the accident.

The artist’s documents, such as his passport, were also found near the wreckage of the plane. The aircraft took off from Salvador and crashed in a mangrove area, difficult to access. The plane was a single-engine Poper PT-KLO prefix, with capacity for four seats, and was registered under the name of the Aeroclube de Alagoas.

Gabriel performed in Feira de Santana, Bahia, days before, and was going to Maceió, with the intention of meeting the then-girlfriend, with whom he had been for more than two years, to celebrate her birthday, which happened the same day of doom.
