An attempted robbery resulted in the death of one of the suspects in the crime, a 27-year-old man, in the Xaxim neighborhood of Curitiba. According to the Military Police (PM), one of the victims, a 67-year-old retiree, pulled out a firearm and shot the perpetrators. The shots hit one of them, who died on the spot. A security camera on the property next door recorded the entire scene, which took place yesterday morning.

In the video recorded by the cameras, the suspicious couple arrive on foot and approach the three occupants of the vehicle, two men and a woman. One of the victims waits for the suspects to enter the car to shoot. They try to escape, but one of them is hit and dies.
The couple would also be armed and would shoot the victim who drew the weapon. The old man was not injured, but had to be taken to hospital due to discomfort.
“We can say from the images and the way in which the dynamics of the event developed that it was an act of self-defense,” testified delegate Silas Roque, from the 8th Civil Police District of Curitiba.
According to the Prime Minister, before attempting to steal the family car, the suspects had already committed the same crime yesterday morning, in the Alto Boqueirão neighborhood of Curitiba. In addition to the couple involved in the approach, the police arrested a third party who was supporting a car.
The Civil Police reported that the old man will freely respond to the investigation of the alleged crime of illegal possession of a weapon. He said that the weapon is an inheritance of generations of the family and that shortly before the crime he would have collected it at the home of a relative. The suspects in the attempted robbery remain in prison.
“At this time, the investigations show that there is no possession of the weapon or the search. The dead suspect was responsible for the robbery
The Civil Police identified the dead suspect as Osmar Felipe Canha. He was responsible for the robbery of Viviana Aparecida de Oliveira, who died at the age of 48, on January 21, 2013, in Curitiba.
The woman was returning from her daughter’s wedding when Osmar reportedly approached her at a traffic light in the Cidade Industrial neighborhood. He shot the victim the moment he got out of the car. Viviana died shortly after being rescued. The Civil Police could not say if he was convicted of the crime.
“How is it that an individual with a criminal record like that is still at large? It is a question that I also ask myself. For the crime of robbery, at least I was able to get him to be 20 years old.
