A two-year-old boy died yesterday in João Pessoa (PB) after being rescued at a municipal hospital in the city as a result of a cardiorespiratory arrest. Family members who helped the boy said he choked on porridge and, since they were unable to revive him at home, they decided to take the boy to hospital.

However, the case began to be investigated by the Civil Police after the medical team warned that the child could have been a victim of sexual violence. As a result, the child’s body was sent to the IPC (Institute of Scientific Police) where the expertise is passed to identify the real cause of death.

The information was confirmed by the sectional delegate Pedro Ivo Soares Bezerra, of the First Civil Police Station of Paraíba. According to him, the suspicion arose when hospital staff alerted a guardian guardian in the region that there were signs of violence on the child’s body, including lacerations in the region of the anus, which raised suspicions of a possible crime of sexual violence.

Pedro Ivo pointed out that the case is being investigated by the João Pessoa Homicide Police and that the police will summon the minor’s family after the report with the cause of death is issued.

“According to what a guardian counselor gave us, the child showed signs of violence through the body and changes in the genitals. The police then requested the cadaveric examination that will indicate the cause of death,” he said.

Bezerra also said that the test will also show whether the child died of suffocation, as the relatives said, if the crime of sexual violence is ruled out. “We will first await the report and then we will seek a complete clarification of the situation,” he said.

Responsible for the region João Pessoa, the delegate explained that he has been holding meetings between the network for the protection of children and adolescents with the aim that all suspected cases of violence and sexual abuse, no matter how small the cartels, are reported immediately to the police.
