Despite being one of the great opponents of Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1, Max Verstappen did not stop praising his rival after achieving his 92nd victory in the category, in the Portuguese GP that established him as an absolute record of victories. The Dutchman revealed a conversation with the Mercedes driver after the race and also said that he believes the Brit could surpass the 100-win mark.

Lewis said he continues to push himself because he wants to set very high standards. I mean, it’s amazing. It’s an incredible achievement, 92 wins, and I don’t think it will stop there. He must be over 100. He’s pushing me to turn 40 or something! Anyway, it is a good motivation – said the Dutchman.

Hamilton had already achieved, at the Eifel GP at the Nürburgring, a record of 91 victories in the category that belonged to seven-time champion Michael Schumacher. By winning this Sunday at the rookie Autodromo de Algarve, in Portimão, the British surpassed the mark.

Verstappen spared no praise for his rival, highlighting the attributes he sees in the six-time champion and, above all, his goal in 2020; Hamilton can also touch, in 2020, the title record of Schumacher, who so far is the biggest champion in the category with seven titles:

– Look for his seventh title, which is awesome. Everyone knows that he is very fast, but I think a very strong point about him is that he is very consistent, he rarely makes mistakes and I think that’s why he reached those numbers so fast.

Starting in third place at the Portuguese GP, Verstappen maintained his position and took last place on the podium, establishing himself in third place in the drivers’ championship with just over twice the points of fourth place Daniel Ricciardo, who has 60 points. The Dutchman won once this season, at the 70-year-old F1 GP at Silverstone.
