President Jair Bolsonaro made this Sunday morning (25) one of the motorcycle tours that he usually does in the Federal District on weekends.
First, he went to a pamonharia in Sobradinho, an administrative region in the DF that is next to Brasilia. He was accompanied by the ministers of the Government Secretariat, Luiz Eduardo Ramos, and the Chief of Cabinet, Walter Braga Neto.
Like other times, Bolsonaro was without a mask and caused a crowd by interacting with people at the scene.
Later, he went to a fair in Cruzeiro, another administrative region of Mexico City, where he got angry with a man who complained about the price of rice.
According to a report by Folha de S.Paulo, the man asked:
“Bolsonaro, lower the price of rice, please. Can’t stand “.
The president then replied:
“Do you want me to drop it? Do you want me to come to the table? If you want me to put it on the table, I do. But you will buy there in Venezuela ”.
The man walked away without saying anything more. And Bolsonaro said: “Speak up and go.”
The high price of rice for the consumer led the government to announce, in September, the exemption from the import tariff of 400 thousand tons of food.
The objective of the measure taken by the Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex), of the Ministry of Economy, was to reduce the cost of imported rice to increase the supply in the country and, thus, contain the high prices of the product in the domestic market.
Some of the factors that explain the rise in prices are the increase in domestic consumption due to the pandemic and Emergency Aid; appreciation of the dollar against the real; reduction in the availability of grain that supplied the country, and drop in production in Asia, which raised the price of grain in the international market.
The trip to the Cruzeiro fair was one of the stops that the president made this Sunday morning while riding a motorcycle through the Federal District.
Before, he had gone to Sobradinho, another administrative region near Brasilia, where he ate porridge.
The use of the mask is mandatory in public areas of the Federal District from April 30. The application of fines began on May 18.
Whoever is caught without the accessory can be fined R $ 2,000, in addition to being responsible for the crime of infraction of sanitary measure. The penalty in this case can be up to one year in prison.
During one of the stops on the motorcycle tour, Minister Luiz Eduardo Ramos was questioned by the press about the recent friction with Environment colleague Ricardo Salles, but said “there was no fight.”
“Wow, no fight,” Ramos said.
And he added: “There is a definition: a fight is when [tem] two people”.
On Thursday (22), Salles said that Ramos, responsible for the political articulation of the government, should stop adopting a position of “gossip Maria”.
The minister attributed to his colleague the origin of a news item published by the newspaper “O Globo”, according to which he, Salles, “stretches the rope” with the military wing of the government – of which Ramos, the reserve general, is part – when the lack of resources for the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama).
The statement provoked contrary reactions to the Salles of the presidents of the Chamber, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), and of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), in addition to demonstrations of support for Ramos from government leaders in Congress and parliamentarians from the base of government.
Members of the so-called ideological wing of the government and government parliamentarians, including Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP), son of President Jair Bolsonaro, approved Salles’s speech and expressed their support for the Minister of the Environment.
This Sunday, Salles said in a message posted on social media that he apologized to Ramos for what he called “excess.”
“I spoke with Minister Ramos, I apologized for the excess and I put an end to it. We are together in government, for President Bolsonaro and Brazil. Good Sunday everyone,” he wrote.
After Salles’ apology, Ramos wrote on a social network that “intrigues do not solve anything” and that “a good conversation calms differences.”
“A good conversation calms differences. Intrigues do not solve anything, especially when they involve issues related to the country. Ricardo Salles and I act together on behalf of our president Jair Bolsonaro and for Brazil,” said Minister Ramos.
The motive for Salles’ attack
On Thursday (22), Ibama, dependent on Ricardo Salles’ ministry, paralyzed the activities of the brigade members who were fighting forest fires, alleging lack of resources.
On Friday (23), the Ministry of Economy announced that it would reallocate R $ 30 million to Ibama and R $ 30 million to the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBio). With that, Ibama determined the return of the brigadistas.
Salles had already complained about the lack of money for Ibama. On August 28, the Ministry of the Environment announced in a note that it would suspend all operations to combat illegal deforestation in the Amazon and burning in the Pantanal due to a financial blockade determined by the Federal Budget Secretariat, of the Ministry of Economy in funds of Ibama and ICMBio.
