Rental option in the midst of the pandemic and record unemployment, platforms that bring together the self-employed and the self-employed registered an increase in both the number of registered workers and the demand for their services.
Workana, a platform that connects freelancers with companies, registered a 32% increase in the number of registrations of Brazilian professionals during the pandemic. Today it has more than 3.2 million freelancers, 50% of whom are Brazilian.
The GetNinjas service recruitment application registered around 400 thousand new professionals on the platform between March and September of this year, an increase of 62% over the previous year.
Design and multimedia are more in demand for freelancers
The Workana platform registered 293 thousand new Brazilian self-employed since the beginning of the pandemic. In total, there are 1.6 million registered professionals.
Furthermore, in September there was an increase of 18.39% in the volume of projects published on the platform in September compared to last year. The expansion in the number of projects is directly linked to the search for freelancers by companies.
The average number of projects published monthly in Workana is around 30 thousand, with May being the month with the highest volume of the year: 37 thousand. The growth in relation to April was 31.7% and in relation to February it reached 39%.
According to the platform, in recent months, the freelance market has grown exponentially, due to the choice of professionals to work remotely and on their own and due to the increase in unemployment in Brazil.
The most hired categories in September were:
- Design and multimedia: 34.52%
- IT and programming: 25.87%
- Translation and Contents: 22.73%
- Marketing and sales: 12.14%
- Engineering and manufacturing: 1.4%
- Administrative support: 1.19%
- Finance and administration: 1.15%
- Legal: 1%
The mason service is the most demanded
GetNinjas registered more than 2.4 million services requested by Brazilians between March and September, an increase of 86% compared to the same period in 2019. The application credits the increase to the greater demand for services at home due to social isolation and the need for repairs and renovations.
Among the more than 500 types of services offered by more than 1.7 million registered professionals, the bricklayer was the most demanded in the country, adding more than 119 thousand requests between March and September of this year.
The second and third places are held, respectively, by professionals who make changes and reels (108 thousand orders) and cell phone technicians (105 thousand orders). In fourth place, with more than 98 thousand requests, is the television technician.
According to Eduardo L’Hotellier, founder and CEO of GetNinjas, the increased demand for professionals such as bricklayers, furniture assemblers and electrician is a direct consequence of the pandemic.
“Due to the isolation and adaptations such as the home office and remote studios, people began to use more electronic devices and to look for home improvements to be more comfortable, whether for pleasure or work.
