The Civil Police today arrested two men accused of being involved in the death of journalist and candidate for councilor Leonardo Soariano Pereira Pinheiro, 39, in May of this year, in the Parati neighborhood, in Araruama, in the Region of the Lakes of Rio de Janeiro. The agents of the 118th (Araruama) had the support of the 124th DP (Saquarema) and the 129th DP (Iguaba Grande).
According to the investigations, Léo Pinheiro, as he was known, was conducting an interview with neighbors in the region when he was approached, in broad daylight, by two men in a car. A hooded criminal ordered the journalist to kneel and executed him. He worked on social projects in the city of Araruama and had a local news page, “A Voz Araruamense.”
The police reported that the suspects involved in the crime are military policeman Alan Marques de Oliveira and Cleisener Vinício Brito Guimarães. With them, the agents seized two weapons, two cars and a boat.
Leonardo Pinheiro’s sister spoke with Twitter. Housewife Aline Pinheiro, 41, said the family looked forward to the arrest of those involved:
“It relieves his prison so much. I was really looking forward to it. I just have to thank the 118 DP team, they were super attentive with that. This period of waiting for his arrest was very painful. My brother was an amazing human being. Was it worth it? take his life? A father of a family, an exemplary husband, an excellent man. And now our soul relaxes. I know it will not bring back my dear brother, but I am relieved. It is sad to see the cruelty of human beings. Everything for power, look what they are capable of, my nephew is only 10 years old and he was without the hero, without the friend, without the partner. Spend a little more. This pain never ends, “said Aline.
The investigation indicates that the motive for the crime would be because Leonardo, who was also a community leader, would be gathering a group of voters in the region where the detained military policeman lives. The prime minister was already a candidate for state deputy in the 2018 elections, and his wife is a candidate for the position of councilor in the 2020 elections. In other words, the murder would have been committed by political dispute on the spot.
