8th Batalho team Military firefighters (BBM) redeemed from Exhibition Park Fernando Costa one weird pssaro, better known as to adapt or ‘ghost bird’. The animal was lying on the ground and it was suspected that it had broken its legs.

According to the commander of the 8th BBM, Lieutenant Colonel Anderson Passos, the bird is considered rare. “It belongs to the genus Nyctibius grindingfamily Nyctibiidae. The animal has stealth (hidden) habits and is quite scary, ”he said.

Before firefighters arrived, according to Passos, some people tried unsuccessfully to capture the bird. “The animal, which apparently had both legs broken, was carefully immobilized by firefighters, put in a cage and taken to the Uberaba veterinary hospital,” he reported.

In addition to the nocturnal habits, the ‘ghost bird’ usually stays for hours on a stake or wooden fence. “His neck is stretched up. It looks like a piece of wood ”, concluded Passos.

Camouflage and ‘magic eye’

The Urutaus camouflage themselves among the trees and have a ‘magic eye’, as the shape and structure of their eyelids allow the birds to see even with their eyes closed. There are five species of urutau that differ in the size and color of the feathers.

Camouflage, the ability to adapt to the environment and go unnoticed, a way for these birds to defend themselves from predators. Its grayish feathers with brown tones blend with the colors of the tree trunks. Therefore, the urutau knows it as a ghost bird.
