Policyholders of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) who cannot undergo professional rehabilitation, they will not be able to interrupt their benefit until December. This is because the agency paused the suspension of paid disability benefits to those who are part of a labor market relocation program.
The measure was taken to support beneficiaries during the new coronavirus pandemic. The order not to suspend payments due to lack of professional rehabilitation was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on Thursday 22.
This action is in line with another INSS rule adopted in March that suspended the proof of life requirement. The mandatory annual exam has already been extended on two occasions, the last one being last week and the suspension period of the requirement has been extended until November 30.
Gradual reopening of agencies
INSS regulations are in line with the reopening of branches, which has been taking place gradually and that is why they are not yet operating with full capacity to meet the high demand from policyholders.
According to the lawyer from the Institute for Social Security Studies (Ieprev), Roberto de Carvalho Santos, in an interview with Agora, in order for professional rehabilitation to take place, a whole process of multiprofessional medical and social assistance is needed. In some cases, an agreement must be signed with another institution.
Thus, the process makes it necessary to produce a set of actions by the INSS for professional rehabilitation. “It is a multifactorial measure,” said the lawyer, which must be carried out within a complete structure, and currently the institute is not in a position to offer this total assistance.
