According to the secretary of the Penitentiary Administration (SAP), Nivaldo Restivo, the attack occurred in the early afternoon after an inmate, who recently raped his sister, arrived at the hospital to be medicated for a fractured femur.

“When he found out that Roger was in the same wing as the prison hospital, he broke into the room, jumped on Roger and attacked him with his hands,” says Restivo.

Hospital officials noticed the attack and managed to control the prisoner before he could injure the former doctor, according to SAP.

Abdelmassih’s lawyer, Evandro Cordeiro, confirmed the information and said that the former doctor is well and remains in the same hospital. He was transferred on September 10 from the Tremembé penitentiary after the STF minister, Ricardo Lewandowski, accepted his defense request for this transfer.

Before going to the prison hospital where he was attacked, Abdelmassih had been locked up in Tremembé prison since August 31, where he was transferred after serving 4 months of house arrest due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
