Inter lost 2-1 to Universidad Católica tonight (22) in Santiago, Chile. Even with the setback, the Brazilian team managed to qualify for the Libertadores round of 16. The first two goals of the match came in the first half. D’Alessandro opened the penalty spot. On the next move, Zampedri tied. The Chilean striker turned the game around at the end of the final stage, by bicycle
With the result, Inter closed the first stage with eight points, in second position, behind Grêmio, leader of the table, with 11. The rival drew 1 to 1 with América de Cali, in Porto Alegre. The Colombian team finished in last position with six points. Universidad Católica added seven points and secured a spot in the Copa Sudamericana.
The draw for the round of 16 will take place this Friday. The 16 qualified teams will be divided into two pots, with first and second place in each of them.
Inter will return to the field next Sunday (25), in a match valid for the 18th round of Brasileirão. The opponent is Flamengo, second in the table. Leader, the Rio Grande do Sul team will play at home. The ball rolls from 6.15pm (Brasilia time).
Busy game
Although Universidad Católica had no chance of advancing to the round of 16 and the draw was good for Inter, the match started with good movement and chances for both teams. The Chilean team arrived in the area for the first time after four minutes, in a cross shot from Piñares. Inter responded with D’Alessandro, at 17, in a submission that exploded in the opposing defense.
Blocking on one side, goal on the other
Universidad Católica managed to hit the post after an attempt to cross Piñares. Lomba stretched, but missed the ball, which hit the crossbar. Inter’s response was with a goal. The referee signaled a penalty on a play marked by touching Piñares’s arm. D’Alssandro charged easily in the middle of the arc and made it 1-0.
Musto fails before the tie
There wasn’t even time for Intere to celebrate much. In the first descent of the Chileans, the game was tied again. The play began with an error by Musto, who lost the ball. In the sequence, Zampedri advanced with the ball dominated and risked a shot from outside the area. The ball was deflected in Cuesta and covered Lomba.
Almost a goal
Excited by the goal, Universidad Católica almost came back with a great goal. After a hit in the area, Puch took the excess and fixed a bike with almost no angle. The ball went towards the goal, but ended up being held by Lomba.
Coudet changes
Inter entered the field with a mixed team, already thinking about next Sunday’s decisive match against Flamengo, for Brasileirão. Eduardo Coudet, however, began to make changes to the squad early in the second half, in order to seek victory in an attempt to finish the group stage in first place. Marcos Guilherme replaced Pottker. Peglow gave way to Edenílson.
Until Galhardo enters
At 26 minutes into the final stage, Coudet threw Thiago Galhardo into the game. For that, he pulled Nonato off the lawn. Soon after, Inter was about to regain the lead on the scoreboard. Yuri Alberto received a free kick in the area, dribbled the goalkeeper and hit without an angle. Huerta ran, stretched and dodged the goal over the line.
Cuesta and Rodinei out
Defender Cuesta and left-back Rodinei hung up the field with two yellow cards and were warned again. With that, the duo is out of the first game of the round of 16 duel. Remember that the other players had their cards reset.
Bike at last
The Catholic University obtained the turning point in a new hesitation from Inter. Cuesta lost the ball and saw Puch cross the ball into the area. Moledo could not defend himself from the danger and Zampedri took the excess bicycle. The ball hit the post and went inside.
