The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) reported that benefits that depend on proof of life will continue to be paid without this requirement until November. Due to the new coronavirus pandemic, the discontinued the proof March to November 30.
Initially, the agency postponed the test of life until September 30. However, the deadline has been extended until October 31 and now until the end of November. It is worth mentioning that the annual re-registration of retirees and pensioners can be extended again while the state of public calamity lasts.
The suspension of the test is valid for beneficiaries residing in Brazil and abroad. However, according to the decree, the contractual obligations established between the INSS and the banking network that pay the benefits are maintained. In addition, the life test should normally be carried out by the banks.
What is proof of life?
Retirees and pensioners of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) must re-register annually to certify that they are still alive and are entitled to benefits. The test is done in the Birthday month insured or 30 days before the last proof of life expires.
The test is in person and can be done in the following ways: at the banking institution where the insured receives the benefit; at an INSS agency, at embassies and consulates or by power of attorney in the case of retirees and pensioners with reduced mobility.
The goal is to prevent benefit fraud. Therefore, whoever does not do the life test in time may have the payment blocked, suspended or terminated.
Proof of life in the agency
To verify this, the retiree or pensioner must go to the bank branch where they receive the benefit with a photo identification, it can be the RG, Work Permit or Driver’s License. Some financial institutions, for example, already use biometric technology in self-service terminals.
Proxy life test
The insured of the INSS who cannot go to the bank or branch of the INSS, due to illness and mobility difficulties, may carry out the life test by proxy. However, this option is only valid for beneficiaries aged 60 and over.
For that, it is necessary to make a power of attorney with the following data of the beneficiary and the authorized person: DNI and CPF; civil status; profession; Speak to. It is worth mentioning that due to the pandemic, this document can now be made through the Internet, without having to go to the registry office or register with the INSS.
Proof of life abroad
Retirees and pensioners living in another country can also prove it in three ways: through a lawyer registered with the INSS; through a proof of life document issued by the consulate; or by the Certificate of Specific Form of Life of the INSS.
The form is available on the website of the Brazilian Consular Office or on the INSS website. However, whoever opts for this form of proof must sign the document in the presence of a local notary public. You will acknowledge the declarant’s signature for authenticity.
