Some points on Saturday
The judge was saturated for almost ten hours in the Senate CCJ. In the opening presentation, Marques cited the Bible and defended himself against accusations of plagiarism in a master’s thesis.
When asked about abortion, he also said he was a “defender of the right to life,” pointing to a position contrary to the practice.
Kassio Marques also said that he is not in the habit of judging resources alone.
“I always honor the collegiate body and this attitude is registered in my almost ten years as a Federal Regional Court,” he said.
Find out who is Kassio Nunes Marques, nominated to the Supreme Court by Bolsonaro
Kassio Nunes Marques is 48 years old and, since 2011, has served in the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF-1), based in Brasilia. He was elected to the court by then-President Dilma Rousseff and joined the Court in the quota of vacancies for legal professionals.
Born in Teresina (PI), Kassio Marques was a lawyer for 15 years, was part of the National Commission for Electoral Law and Political Reform of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in Piauí and was also a judge of the Regional Electoral Court of the state.
Marques was Bolsonaro’s first nomination for the STF. The judge’s name was not on the lists of potential nominees and was criticized by supporters of the president.
Bolsonaro chose not to appoint a “terribly evangelical” minister, as he had promised. In the face of criticism, he has repeated that the judge is a conservative jurist.
