United States First Lady Melania Trump decided not to accompany President Donald Trump to a campaign rally Tuesday in Erie, Pennsylvania, due to a persistent cough during his recovery from Covid-19, he said. Stephanie Grisham, her chief of staff.
It would be Melania’s first public appearance since recovering from the coronavirus, as well as her first appearance at a husbands rally in more than a year.
“Mrs. Trump continues to feel better every day but with a persistent cough and, being too cautious, is not going to travel today,” Grisham said.
The first lady last appeared in public at the Cleveland debate on Sept. 29 between Trump and Democrat Joe Biden. She and the president tested positive for coronavirus two days later.
Last week, he reported that he had recovered and received a negative result after experiencing headaches, body aches, and fatigue. It also revealed that the couple’s 14-year-old son, Barron, had contracted the virus but had never developed symptoms and was cured as well.
Tuesday’s rally in Pennsylvania would be his first face-to-face appearance at a rally since Melania spoke briefly in June 2019 in Orlando, Florida, when the president launched his bid for re-election.
He is expected to accompany Trump to Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday for his second and final debate against Biden before the November 3 election.
