BH neighborhoods are left without electricity after fire at Cemig substation

Accident occurred at the Calafate substation, and the electrical installation was turned off remotely to guarantee safety; teams work to restore power

Some streets in the neighborhoods of the western region of Belo Horizonte are without electricity on Monday morning (19). The interruption in the electricity supply is due to a fire that occurred in the early hours of the morning at the Calafate da Cemig substation, which is located on Rua Campos Melo, also in the western region of the city. The energy company clarified that shortly after the first sparks, a remote shutdown of the facility where the flames began was carried out.

The Fire Department was called and, according to crews present at the scene, the fire posed a risk to the building. However, for now, there are no more details about the operation to combat calls. In a note sent to the report of TIMECemig clarified that the teams are already in the substation and are working to normalize the electricity supply in the city and investigate the causes of the accident.

In addition to some regions in western neighborhoods of the mining capital, there are reports of power outages also in points of the Carlos Prates and Coração Eucarístico neighborhoods, these in the Northwest region of BH.
