Marllon returns to Corinthians after ten months and little space at Cruzeiro | corinthians

This Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasilia time), Corinthians will face Flamengo, at Neo Química Arena, for the 17th round of the Brazilian Championship. Marllon will start alongside Gil.

The duel will be special for Marllon also because of his origins: born in Bangu, he broke into football at the base of Flamengo, being the champion of the São Paulo Cup as a starter in 2011.

In Timão since 2018, he played his last game among Corinthians’ 11 starts on December 8, 2019, in a 2-1 loss to Fluminense, at home. Just over ten months ago.

This season, Marllon’s last game was more than two months ago, on the eleventh match of the Mineiro Championship, against Caldense. During his time at Cruzeiro, the defender played four games: three for the state tournament and one for Serie B of Brasileirão.

In addition to the five games of the year for Marllon (in addition to the four with the Cruzeiro shirt, he also played for Timão against Atlético on Wednesday), they are just over 300 minutes on the pitch.

Without Bruno Méndez (suspended), Danilo Avelar (injured) and Léo Santos (injured), Vagner Mancini will have no defenses on the bench. If there is a problem with the double bracket, the Xavier steering wheel should return to function. Raúl Gustavo, 21, will only be an option against Vasco.

When he returned to Corinthians after spending time with Cruzeiro, Marllon was highly celebrated by the cast. The player has the affection of the group and, with Avelar’s serious injury, he should at least establish himself as an option on the substitute bench for Timão de Vagner Mancini.

The problem is, Marllon’s plans have been thwarted in the last two loans. If he left Corinthians to have more spaces, he was not satisfied with either Bahia or Cruzeiro.

Last year, Marllon was loaned to Bahia in July. In September, Corinthians also requested his return to compose the defense after the injury of Léo Santos. He didn’t even debut in the Steel Tricolor jersey.

The defender, now 28, has a contract with Corinthians until the end of 2021.
