Corinthians has 7 games without winning Flamengo for Brasileirão – 10/17/2020

The classic between Corinthians and Flamengo, the two biggest fans in the country, is one of the most balanced in the history of the Brazilian Championship. Since they met for the first time in 1967 (still for Robertão), there have been 71 games, 26 wins for each and 19 draws.

In recent years, however, the red-black carioca has been benefiting. In the last 7 matches, since 2016, there have been four wins and three draws. Corinthians’ last victory, for Brasileirão, was 4 years ago, in a 4-0 loss at home, on July 3, 2016, with two goals from Romero, one from Guilherme and one from Rildo.

In the history of the Classic, this is the biggest quick victory for Corinthians, who also went 7 games without losing to the rival between 2010 and 2013. In the last game between them, in the second round of 2019, Flamengo won 4 x 1 , with three goals from Bruno Henrique, in the match in which coach Fábio Carille ended up being fired.

As a manager, Corinthians has 15 wins, 11 draws and 9 losses. Recently, between 2010 and 2016, he won seven games in a row at home. However, in the last three he tied two (2017 and 2019) and lost one (2018, by 3 x 0, in the biggest defeat in Neo Química Arena).

In their new stadium, against Flamengo, Corinthians has 3 victories, 2 draws and 2 defeats, one of them for the Brazilian Cup last year.

This Sunday (18), the two giants will meet again at the Neo Química Arena, at 4 pm, with Flamengo in the best position in the table (3rd), fighting for the leadership of the championship, but is coming from a marathon of games. Corinthians, who started round 16 in 14th position, left the relegation zone last Wednesday after beating Athletico-PR in the debut of manager Vágner Mancini.

A draw, in the current circumstances, seems to be the best result for both. And most likely.
