In addition to the search for a new coach, the president of Palmeiras, Mauricio Galiotte, and the football director Anderson Barros spoke about the squad in the restructuring process experienced in 2020 and also about the search for reinforcements this season.
At a press conference at the Soccer Academy on Thursday, Galiotte praised the current team, but said he expects more from the players.
– It is important to say that Palmeiras is changing, this has been happening. We are going through this restructuring. There are 20 players left. If we analyze how many have left since November, 20 have left, ten have risen from the base. The cast undergoes a change. And we seek an ideal work philosophy. Is it a cast with good values? Yes, good values, that can offer much more. But much more. We are far from what we can offer. If we always seek perfection, yes. It always evolves, ‘said Galiotte.

Asked about the club’s demand for reinforcements, Anderson Barros opened the possibility of hiring for the sequence of the Brazilian Championship, Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.
– Yes, we work to bring new pieces, strengthen the cast and fight for titles – said the leader.
– Palmeiras defined the restructuring, of which we speak several times here and it is always delicate. It makes some goals take time to reach. Performance is always very tricky in this process. We understand that we are on a path, that we have a cast with potential. Obviously we work daily to look for pieces that add up, to know if any of our athletes need to find a new club … It is a difficult process, which must be evaluated on a daily basis so as not to stray from the objectives – he declared.
In 2020, the directors of Palmeiras prioritized the departure of players and hired only two athletes so far: left-back Matías Viña and forward Rony. The club estimates that it should stop raising about R $ 200 million this season due to the crisis caused by the coronavirus.
