BRASÍLIA – The former governor of the Amazon Amazonino Mendes (Pode) leads the electoral race for the city of Manaus, with 25% of the voting intentions. The data is from Ibope and was released on Wednesday night.
They are followed, according to the survey, by David Almeida (Avante), with 13%; Ricardo Nicolau (PSD), 11%; Zé Ricardo (PT), 10%; Captain Alberto (Republicans), 6%; Alfredo Nascimento (PL) and Chico Preto (DC), both with 3%; Romero Reis (Novo), 2% and Marcelo Amil (PCdoB), 1%.
The survey’s margin of error is four percentage points higher or lower. 504 people were heard between October 12 and 14. Among those interviewed, 16% said they would vote blank or void and 3% did not know or did not want to answer.
Supported by President Jair Bolsonaro, Colonel Menezes (Patriota) appears in sixth place in the poll, with 6%. In his electoral program, Menezes has used the image of Bolsonaro to ask for support.
“My friends and my friends, I am Colonel Menezes, elected and supported by President Bolsonaro, for having the competence and courage to put an end to all these women,” says the Patriota candidate just at the opening of his electoral program.
A practically unknown name in local politics, Colonel Menezes gained notoriety in the state in 2019, when he was appointed by Bolsonaro to command the superintendency of the Manaus Free Zone (Suframa), one of the most coveted federal positions in the region.
