A policeman staying in a pousada in Jericoacoara, on the Ceará coast, attacked one of the employees of the place last Saturday after, allegedly, not wanting to wear a protective mask, one of the main measures to combat the contagion of the coronavirus.
In a video that circulates on social networks, the policeman appears walking through the common space of the place. She is filmed closely by the employee who accuses her of traveling without a mask. At the time of the assault, however, it is possible to see that the police officer was wearing protection.
According to the owner of the inn, Antônia Maria de Sousa, the confusion began inside, when the employee would have asked the guest, who showed signs of intoxication, to put on the mask. Identifying herself as a civil police inspector, she put on the mask and began to curse the employee who was filming the confusion.
She also said that they called the police officers, but that they refused to respond to the case because she was a civilian police officer. In a note, the prime minister confirmed that those involved did not drive to the police station and that the inspector denied having attacked the employee.
In the video, the employee claims that the guest is drunk and is not respecting the inn’s regulations. At this moment, the police officer turns and slaps the employee with a slap, dropping the worker’s cell phone. Filming is interrupted, but the audio recording continues and the guest can be heard yelling and asking not to be filmed.
In a note, the Civil Police of the State of Ceará reported that the Municipal Police of Jijoca de Jericoacoara is investigating the case.
The Comptroller General of Discipline of Public Security and Penitentiary System (CGD) said that it determined the immediate investigation of the facts in the administrative disciplinary area.
Wanted by Twitter, the innkeeper did not return contact.
The report still attempts to contact the inspector.
A law in force in the state of Ceará requires the use of a mask in public and private places, with a fine of R $ 100 in case of non-compliance.
The governor wants the case investigated
The governor of Ceará, Camilo Santana (PT), requested an immediate investigation of the case.
In a social network, the governor said that all policemen involved in illegal acts must be prosecuted and, when they are guilty, punished by law.
