A man drowned and another person is still missing after entering Lake Paranoá yesterday afternoon. The death occurred near the JK Bridge, and the victim was rescued alive, but suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and could not resist. Another case occurred in Prainha do Lago Norte and, as of press time, the bather had not been located by the Federal District Military Fire Brigade (CBMDF). The searches for the body of Luiz Gabriel da Silva Oliveira, 27, who disappeared on Saturday, had to be stopped due to the events of Monday.

According to CBMDF Lt. Fabio Bohle, the drowning victim in Prainha entered the water along with other bathers. “There was no relative of the young man at the scene and the report we had was from witnesses. They said they saw the boy go into the lake and, after a while, he didn’t come back, “he explains.

The team arrived at the scene around 4 p.m., when the victim had submerged about 6 minutes ago. “After an hour and a half of searching the area, the divers were unable to locate the victim. Due to time and brightness, the search will resume today, as well as that of Luiz Gabriel (who disappeared on Saturday) ”, the lieutenant guarantees. As of press time, the victim had not been identified.

On the JK Bridge, a man, aged between 40 and 50, was rescued by firefighters after drowning at the scene. Despite being rescued alive, the victim suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. The military tried to revive her for about 30 minutes, but to no avail. The bather was also not identified.

The searches for the body of Luiz Gabriel Oliveira began at 6:30 am yesterday, with 18 soldiers engaged in the mission. According to Colonel Deusdete Vieira, who commands the operation, the greatest difficulty that the firefighters encounter during the searches are the remains of the bridge works, which are at the bottom of Lake Paranoá.

The military continued to search for the young man until they had to be relocated to deal with the drowning cases in Prainha and the Ponte JK area. Searches will resume this morning.
