RIO – The National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) reported that it received a complaint for the sale of a fake vaccine against Covid-19 in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. According to the regulator, a company is selling the counterfeit immunizer and claims it is a vaccine in development by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca.

“Anvisa received the complaint about the alleged irregular marketing of the vaccine against Covid-19 through its official channels, indicating that the Oxford vaccine against Covid-19 was being made available by a company located in Niterói / RJ,” said Anvisa .
“The complaint was filed on September 25 and that same day an assessment and formal referral was made to the General Directorate of the Federal Police.”
The agency reiterates that there is still no vaccine against Covid-19 authorized for commercialization in Brazil. Until its launch, Anvisa requests that supposed immunizations against the disease are not acquired.

“There are vaccines against Covid-19 in Brazil, exclusively for use in clinical studies. There is no permission for the marketing and distribution of these vaccines,” said the Anvisa note.
Vaccine in tests
Still in the testing phase and without approval for sale in Brazil, the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca, in association with the University of Oxford, is considered by the Brazilian government as one of the main bets for immunization against Covid-19. For now, only the volunteers are receiving a dose of the immunizer and in a controlled manner by the responsible institutions.
