The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 106-93 today in the sixth game of the final series (11) and became NBA champions. This was the 17th title won by the Californian franchise in league history, the first for LeBron James and Anthony Davis to wear the purple and gold jersey. With the achievement, the team tied with the Boston Celtics as the biggest winners in NBA history.
This was the Los Angeles team’s first achievement in the LeBron James era. The world basketball superstar came to be the star of the team last year. Even without Anthony Davis as a teammate and suffering injuries, he was unable to lead the team to the postseason. Today, LeBron James became MVP of the final for the fourth time in his career, the only one to achieve the feat.
A year later, with a new coaching staff and a strengthened squad, the team ran the league’s second-best campaign of the regular season, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets in the playoffs before defeating Miami by 4 games 2 Heat, by Jimmy Butler and sensations Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, in six final games.
It was 8 years out of the playoffs and exactly 10 years without an achievement, when the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics. LeBron James now lifts the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the fourth time for three different franchises: Miami Heat (twice), Cleveland Cavaliers and now the Los Angeles Lakers.
THE GAME
In the first two attacks of the game, both the Lakers and Heat scored. If at this first moment the teams seemed to have the same rhythm and the same effectiveness, this panorama changed with the passage of the first quarter, which ended 28 to 20 for the Los Angeles team. Even with three 3-pointers, the Heat saw LeBron and Davis combine for 17 points in the first 12 minutes.
The next quarter was even more overwhelming: With the Lakers adjusting the score and counting LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the supportive but experienced Rajon Rondo in the offensive sector, the gap increased from eight points to 28 points. The end of the second quarter scored 64-36.
In the last two periods it has been enough to manage the excellent result generated in the previous quarters. At the end of the third quarter, the Lakers were leading by 31 points and LeBron was already flirting with the triple-double. The next quarter had a spectacular performance: 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for LeBron, 19 points and 15 rebounds for Davis and 19 points for Rajon Rondo, 106 to 93, and champion of the Lakers in the Disney bubble.
