Bahía lost 1-0 to Fluminense, this Sunday afternoon, and had interrupted the good moment in the Brazilian Championship after the victory over Vasco. The goal of the match was scored by midfielder Nenê, in the second half, which generated many complaints from the players and coach Mano Menezes, from the squad. On the play, the referee José Mendonça da Silva Junior, after consulting the VAR, scored a penalty committed by Gregore [veja acima o lance e os melhores momentos do jogo no Maracanã].

In the post-match interview, Mano Menezes admitted the team’s poor performance. The coach noted the difficulty of the championship and the bad phase that the team went through.
– Winning in Brazilian soccer, in a tough championship like this, is always difficult. At least we have won again, we are still oscillating a little in terms of income. I think today we play a game next. And then, as a result, we couldn’t sequence, which is what we want, to involve a succession of positive outcomes. But we know that the difficulties will always be immense. The same quality that we have, the same intention that we have, the opponents also have it. What is happening to Bahia is happening to almost all the rivals in the championship. The difference is that they were not left behind like us. They didn’t go unmarked as long as we did.

For this match, the Bahian coach repeated the first team for the first time, with Ernando on his side, even with Nino recovered. The team, however, did not have the same level of performance as the match against Vasco.
– Now we have to make up exactly that lost time. And I’m here to do what you have to do. I repeated the team. I thought it was fair to repeat the team after the performance we had with Vasco. But a game is not always the same. The rival has another characteristic, and today we have another type of difficulty that I think made us make more mistakes than usual. Fluminense scored us better. This led us to certain areas of the field that weren’t exactly where we would like to go. As a result, we can no longer create as much of the quality that was necessary for you to have a positive result away from home.
– The opponent does not leave [o Bahia repetir a atuação que teve na última semana]. The game is not one-sided, in which we choose what we want to do. Opponents play an important role in a soccer game. And, from the moment we conceded the goal, we also had, on the part of our rival, a setback on the field to defend the advantage, because they did not do much to build either – he added.
Regarding the referee’s performance, Mano affirms that referee José Mendonça da Silva Junior made a mistake when committing Gregore’s penalty in Nenê. Mano also mentioned Rafael Traci, the game’s video referee, who also played in the team’s match against Sport, for the 13th round.
– I think they built it incorrectly, because, in our assessment, there was no maximum penalty. In the referee’s evaluation there was also no maximum penalty. Because he was five meters from the pitch and played with the strength of the field, with what is seen there when it was not a penalty. Then, in slow motion, looking from another angle, then almost everything can be missing, depending on the intention. By coincidence, the video referee [Rafael Traci] It was the same thing that he did not score a penalty in Gilberto against Sport and that annulled our goal, because he understood that there was an irregularity. Brazilian football matches are sometimes uncomfortable, because when they turn against one side, they establish a technical inequality in the competition, and we don’t like that. Bother us.
The defeat and the momentary results of the Brazilian Championship saw Bahia fall to 14th place on the leaderboard, with 15 points. The team returns to the field next Friday, when it faces Goiás, in Serra Dourada, at 8pm (Brasilia time).

Team evaluation
– The team was regular. It was a game in which, despite not having built as many quality opportunities, the game was relatively controlled. We sinned a lot in the defense-offensive transition. We could have done better with the volume of ball recovery we had, in a good field space, but today we have made a little more mistakes, it is the succession of games, you don’t recover so well from one game to another. And things sometimes don’t work out so well. Today they did not work so well.
Arbitration
– Played the play. I don’t see that this VAR rule, this new tool, was created for a play that the referee interpreted and saw. The VAR must call for a play that the referee did not see. Otherwise, we will have two arbitrations, one from above, very far away, that does not feel the force of a hand on the back, because in slow motion, afterwards, everything is missing. I know there will be people who will say yes. Because we have experience with this. A rogue player is taken, who feels an arm behind his back and projects his body forward, the result of which as an image is a foul. But there was no fault on the playing field. And sadly, I see that we are leaving with two major losses. In the game against Sport, there was a very clear penalty in Gilberto, of whom I did not see anyone speak. And now, again, we lost a game with a play in which, in my opinion, the maximum penalty should not have been scored. Bahía has to position itself, because the championship is made up of important moments and we cannot let these things go by.
Basque and Fluminense
– They are different opponents. And you have different stories in each game. Sometimes the player does not repeat. Sometimes some things cause the mechanics of the team to not work as well. And we have to be mature to understand each game as it is.
