Cecil Thiré dies in Rio | Rio de Janeiro

The actor and director Cecil Thiré died on Friday (9) in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 77. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease and died in his sleep at his home, in the South Zone of Rio.

Cecil Aldary Portocarrero Thiré was born on May 28, 1943 in Rio de Janeiro. He was the only child of the marriage between the actress Tônia Carrero and the artist Carlos Arthur Thiré. Cecil Thiré’s mother, Tônia, died in March 2018 after a cardiac arrest.

He directed “Os Mendigos”, his first short film at the age of 19. Thiré worked for many years at Globo and participated in soap operas such as “O Espigão”, “Sol de Verão” and “Top Model”. The most prominent were the roles of Mário Liberato in “Roda de Fogo” and Adalberto in “The next victim”.

The beginning of his artistic career was devoted a lot to the theater in the 60s. Thiré made his film debut with a short appearance in “Tico-tico no fubá”, starring his mother Tônia, at the age of 9.

“The beggars”, “The devil lives in the blood”, “The suburb of Ibrahim” are some of the films directed by the actor.

‘I fought for art’, says daughter

He was the father of four children: Miguel Thiré, Carlos Thiré and Luísa Thiré, the result of his first marriage with Norma Pesce, and João Cavalcanti Thiré, born from his union with his second wife, Carolina Cavalcanti.

“He deserved to have the most beautiful wake in the world, surrounded by the people he loves. Dad was a warrior. He fought for democracy, for art, he fought for theater. He had four children, seven grandchildren and he was a warrior until the last moment, ”said Cecil’s daughter, Luisa Thiré.
