Returning to the National Congress for the first time after the diagnosis of Covid-19, the mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), said on Thursday (8) that the disease “is not a joke” and defended the use of masks, ” fundamental so that the virus does not continue spreading ”.
“From today until the vaccine, in every public place that I am, I will be wearing a mask, trying to show everyone that this is not a known disease,” Maia said.
Together with the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, the president of the Chamber participated in an act of the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Administrative Reform in the National Congress.
Even after having Covid-19, Maia says she will continue to wear a mask.
Having already cured the disease, Maia heard from Senator Kátia Abreu (PP-TO) that it would not be necessary to wear a mask. Even so, the deputy refused to remove his protective equipment during the interview. Before the contagion, Maia used to remove her mask to speak into the microphone.
The parliamentarian also said that he went through a “period of isolation and suffering” and that 20% of the lung was affected by the virus.
“I was barely admitted. I thank not only the team that took care of my health, but also the public service teams, mainly doctors, health professionals, who have already cared for millions of Brazilians, ”he said.

The mayor received a positive diagnosis for Covid-19 on September 16. In addition to the deputy, the heads of the three branches of the Republic have already been infected by the new coronavirus.
The President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, the President of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), and the President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luiz Fux, had Covid-19 and recovered it.
