In a lively and exciting match until the end, Santos defeated Goiás today 3-2 (4), in Acclaimed Pinheiro, in a match marked by many interventions by the VAR. It was Peixe’s first victory after three consecutive draws at the Brazilian Championship. The goals of the São Paulo team were scored by Marinho, Jefferson (against) and Marcos Leonardo. Vinicius and Victor Andrade scored for the Goianos.
With the victory, Santos jumped the table and reached the sixth position, with 20 points added. Goiás, on the other hand, remains in the spotlight with nine points won and three games less than the rivals that appear above.
Now, Santos has the classic against Corinthians next Wednesday, at 7pm, in São Paulo. Goiás play at home again and host Fluminense in Serrinha.
The best: Marinho
Always active, Marinho looked for the game at all times when he was on the field. Penalty scored the tie that paved the way for Santos to win. Technical leader on the field, the attacker moved, created plays and created rush in the attack.
Worst: David Duarte
The Goiás defender committed the penalty that Marinho converted and tied the game in Goiânia. Then, shortly after Santos turned the game around, he took the second yellow card and was sent off, causing the home team to lose its numerical advantage.
Playing at home, Goiás opens the scoring at the start
The game has already started with a goal. At 5 minutes, Keko received a long ball down the right wing, invaded the area and crossed backwards. Alison did not accompany Vinicius, who seemed free to push the ball into the net. The offer took about three minutes to be validated due to Keko’s possible impediment. After a long wait, the goal was confirmed.
Santos calls and VAR becomes a character in the game
In addition to confirming Esmeralda’s goal, the video assistant made three more interventions in the first 45 minutes. With the partial defeat, Santos’ team needed to find the result and began to have more volume of play in the attack field. In a well-crafted play, Lucas Braga received the ball between the defenders and was brought down by the Goiás defender. Initially, the field referee did not call the foul, but was called by the VAR, reviewed the play and scored the penalty for Santos. Marinho beat and tied the game.
Minutes later, after a corner kick, the ball hit Sandro’s arm and the Santos players kept calling for a penalty. Again, the referee Marielson Alves Silva was called in to review the play in the video, but did not change his field decision and did not score the second penalty for Santos FC.
Five minutes later, another controversy: the referee was called by the video to review a yellow card given to Arthur Gomes, from Santos, after being shared with Edilson. Marielson reviewed the play and decided to send off the Santos midfielder.
With one less, Santos comes back with a goal against
In the second stage and with a numerical advantage, Goiás returned to the game getting more with the ball and creating some chances to finish. Peixe, for his part, returned to the field well organized and managed to resist Esmeraldino’s initial attacks. In the 9th minute, Pará received a ball in the area, crossed and counted on luck: the ball deflected Jefferson, took advantage of Tadeu’s defense opportunity and entered the goal, decreeing Santos’ turn.
David Duarte is expelled and Santos takes advantage of numerical equality
Shortly after seeing Santos go ahead of the scoreboard, emerald defender David Duarte took the second yellow card and left Goiás with 10 on the field. With numerical equality, spaces appeared on the field and the local team looked for the game, without much creativity. On the other hand, Peixe took advantage of the open field and began to explore the rapid counterattacks in the spaces left by the opposing defense.
This is how Santos reached the third goal: Pará threw Madson into the back of the defense, and the full-back crossed perfectly for Marcos Leonardo to score the third for Peixe. It was the attacker’s first goal for the professional team.
Marinho is replaced feeling pain in the thigh, lack of attack
Santos, outstanding in the championship, the forward left the field in the second stage feeling severe pain and worried the fans. In addition to him, Kaio Jorge also left the field injured. Santos finished the game with a 100% reserve attacking trio.
Goiás decreases, and the game is exciting until the end
At 39 minutes into the final stage, Goiás declined with Victor Andrade, a former Santos player. The goal encouraged the Goiás team, who went up and scored another goal in minute 47. However, after review, the play was canceled due to an impediment by Rafael Moura at the start of the play. Thus the victory of Santos was enshrined.
