BRASÍLIA – Maria do Socorro Marques, wife of Judge Kássio Nunes Marques, the favorite to be nominated for the Supreme Court (STF) by President Jair Bolsonaro, has already worked as a commissioned employee of four senators from Piauí. Currently, she is based in the office of Elmano Férrer (Pode-PI), a member of Centrão and a supporter of Bolsonaro, earning R $ 11.4 thousand per month and exempt from hit points. But for eight years she was an employee of the senators of the PT, the main opposition party to Bolsonaro.

From 2011 to 2014, she was a commissioner in the office of then-Senator Wellington Dias (PT-PI). In 2014, he was elected Governor of Piauí and left the Senate. With that, his understudy, Regina Sousa (PT-PI), took over. Thus, as of 2015, María do Socorro was crammed into the former senator’s office. In 2018, the second alternate on the ballot, Zé Santana (MDB-PI), briefly assumed office, keeping María do Socorro in the commissioned position. In 2019 he started working for Elmano.
María do Socorro’s career in the Senate is consistent with the career of her husband, who is from Piauí and does well in various sectors of the politics of his state. She became a judge of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF-1), based in Brasilia and covering the Federal District and 13 states, including Piauí, in 2011. The former president was named Dilma Rousseff (PT), after being the most voted in the triple list of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).

According to political sources in Piauí, the judge had a good relationship with then-governor Wilson Martins of the PSB. The lawyers who were part of the Federal Council of the OAB at that time affirm that Kássio Nunes’ candidacy for TRF-1 was supported by the PT of Piauí, who asked for votes in his favor.
