Inter are experiencing the worst series since Odair’s accident, but they keep their footing in the second round of the Libertadores | International

Inter leaves Colombia with one foot in the second round of the Libertadores. But we will talk about the mathematics of Group E below. Because the closed face of Eduardo Coudet and the brief responses at the press conference after the 0-0 draw with América de Cali, on Tuesday, say more about the moment the club is experiencing than about the proximity of the classification.

The team reached the fourth consecutive game without a win in 2020. The two defeats and the two draws are the Argentine’s worst streak. The last time Inter went without a win for that long resulted in his dismissal as manager in October 2019.

After losing the Copa do Brasil, Odair Hellmann even had a reaction in the 1-0 win over Chapecoense, for Brasileirão. But he did not last four games with the same results – two draws and two losses – and ended up being fired by the board after a painful setback for the CSA.

Without a coach, Inter would still go five games without winning. The contexts and stages of work are different.

Odair had been in office for almost two years and managed to withstand a five-game series without scoring three points in 2018. Coudet, in turn, just turned ninth month. But Colorado is currently experiencing the worst drought since October 2019.

And the troubled moment goes beyond the last four games. Inter finished September with just 37% accuracy in nine games: two wins, four draws and three losses. Colorado lost the lead in Brasileirão and also in Group E of Libertadores.

The number is even more surprising compared to the previous month. In August, the team had a 75% success rate, with six wins out of eight games.

Four games without winning

Data Game Stadium Competition
09/19 Fortaleza 1-0 Inter Spanish Football
09/23 Inter 0 x 1 Grêmio Beira-Rio Liberators
09/26 Inter 1 x 1 São Paulo Beira-Rio Football
09/29 America de Cali 0 x 0 Inter Pascual Guerrero Liberators

The fluctuation comes at a time when the calendar narrows with two simultaneous competitions, and soon there will be three, and it starts every three days. Breakages, embezzlements and more embezzlements arise.

– We put the ones we had in better condition. Obviously I don’t want to play like this. But today is what we can play. We try to improve, but we continue to experience misfortunes, as I said. Renzo’s injury (Saravia) is the most negative result of that match – Coudet said after the draw.

  • 9 sets
  • 2 wins
  • 4 draws
  • 3 defeats
  • 10 goals scored
  • 10 goals conceded
  • 37% utilization

As if that were not enough, the coach faces another Gre-Nal, the sixth of the year. Next Saturday, Inter will face Grêmio in the Arena, at 5 pm, for the 13th day of the Brasileirão.

After four defeats, one draw and no goals scored in five classics so far, Coudet is trying his first win to dissipate the pressure and demands around him. A new stumbling block can be fatal. But President Marcelo Medeiros guarantees that the coach is not threatened in office.

Calm down, let’s talk about that too. If there is something positive to contribute from the tie in Cali, it is that it resides in the Group E table. Although they lost the lead to Grêmio, already classified with 10 points, Inter is very close to the position in the round of 16 of the Liberators.

Colorado ranks second in the table, with eight points and a record of three positive goals. America appears in third place, with five points. The team is the only one that can reach Inter. But he has a balance of two negative goals and needs to take a total of five goals difference.

> Inter’s stages to guarantee a place:

  • Will beat Catholic University: He can even finish in the lead, if Grêmio does not beat America
  • It will tie: guarantees place as runner-up
  • Get lost: still guarantees spot, as long as the United States doesn’t take a five-goal difference off balance

The games of the last round are only scheduled for October 22, at 9:30 p.m. Inter faces Universidad Católica in San Carlos de Apoquindo. America goes to the Arena for the duel with Grêmio.

Before, however, everything is Gre-Nal (again). Colorado will face Tricolor next Saturday, at 5 pm, in Arena, for the 13th day of Brasileirão.
