The mayor of Manaus, Arthur Virgílio Neto (PSDB-AM), said today that he has proposed to Governor Wilson Lima (PSC) that a new two-week confinement be decreed in the capital of Amazonas after the increase in the number of cases of 19.

In the period between September 24 and 28, the Manaus municipal health department registered 1,627 cases. In August, on the same days, the city had registered 1,255 infected, an increase of almost 30%. The peak of cases in one day was registered on May 29, with 1,723.

“My concern is to save lives here in the Amazon, so I am in favor of the confinement because I understand that Fiocruz recommends it. [Fundação Oswaldo Cruz], is recommended by the scientific world and, notably, the cases of covid-19 are growing in a regrettable and dangerous way in our land, ”said Virgílio Neto in an interview with GloboNews.
