The Deliberative Council of Santos decided, by a large majority, to open the indictment of José Carlos Peres on Monday night, in a virtual meeting. The yes of 2/3 of those present was necessary and 161 of 176 were approved. Vice President Orlando Rollo will temporarily take over the club as of this Tuesday.
Seven other members of the Steering Committee were temporarily removed: Anilton Perão, Bruno Carbone, Estevam Juhas, Fábio Gaia, Matheus Rodrigues, Paulo Schiff and Pedro Dória. Rollo, without a role since 2018, was not involved in the action.
The councilors supported the Survey and Survey Commission, which pointed out irregularities in the 2019 accounts and described the management as “reckless.”
Fish had a surplus of R $ 23.5 million after the sale of Rodrygo was registered. The Fiscal Commission, however, paid attention to other facts, such as the misuse of the corporate card and the inadequate payment of commissions in the negotiations.
Peres and the other managers will have an individual “trial”. They have 10 business days to present the defense. The Commission of Inquiry and Consultation receives the justifications and has seven working days for a new opinion.
If the suggestion is again for impeachment, the Board of Directors will vote again. And if the “yes” remains, the meeting is scheduled. The total term is 60 days. During this period, the president and managers are suspended. It should be remembered that the election is scheduled for the first half of December and so far there are eight candidates: Andrés Rueda, Daniel Curi, Esmeraldo Tarquínio, Fernando Silva, Milton Teixeira Filho, Ricardo Agostinho, Rodrigo Marino and Vagner Lombardi.
In this way, Orlando Rollo will be able to take the presidency on Tuesday and elect new members of the Steering Committee, including a vice president. José Carlos Peres promises to try to reverse the process in court and seeks a court order for the next few hours.
In 2018, Peres remained president until he was “saved” in the assembly among the members. At the time, he was criticized for “using the machine” during the period. This time, after the statute changes in 2019, the trustee must stay away until the impeachment process is complete.
People close to Orlando Rollo affirm that the vice president will have an “added” position in charge of the club. The idea is to help the candidate elected in December transition. The leader talks about supporting Coach Cuca and looking for ways to reduce the financial crisis.
Meanwhile, Santos travels this Tuesday afternoon to Paraguay, where he will face Olimpia, on Thursday, at 7:00 p.m., in Asunción, for the fifth day of the group stage of the Libertadores de América.
It should be remembered that Rollo was quickly president in 2019, on November 11, after José Carlos Peres was suspended by the STJD. The next day, the president obtained a court order. On the occasion, he changed part of the Management Committee, he went to the club and faced “closed drawers” and part of the dismissed employees. There was confusion and a heated discussion between officials and supporters of the deputy.
Orlando Rollo said at the time: “We are taking over and we are avoiding extreme measures, due to the good weather that has to be around the club. The weather is bad because of the president himself.” Peres replied: “They tried to strike for 15 days. Nothing justifies the creation of this climate of terrorism.”
Irregularities
According to the opinion of the Fiscal Council of 2019, President Peres admitted the misuse of the corporate card, “as well as the negligence with the pending refund of the amounts.” This violates the Statutes in more than one article. In an interview with Gazeta Esportiva, the president said that he canceled the card.
The CF indicated expenses of R $ 28,761.65 for personal motivation and without reimbursement. Peres has repeatedly claimed to have used the money for meetings or necessities at the club’s office in São Paulo.
The Fiscal Council also ratified the concern about commissions to entrepreneurs. And he did not obtain the documents requested for the sale of Bruno Henrique to Flamengo, for example.
Another important point, according to the CF report, is the use of a law firm hired by Santos to defend Pedro Doria, a member of the Management Committee, and also the daughter of President José Carlos Peres.
All these complaints were referred to the Investigation and Consultation Committee. With the documents, CIS recommended impeachment.
