THE Benfica announced on Sunday (27) an agreement with Manchester city for the sale of defender Ruben Dias and the hiring of Nicolás Otamendi, a defender who lost space in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
There are two different negotiations. For Ruben Dias, City will pay 68 million euros (R $ 439 million), in addition to an additional amount of 3.6 million euros (R $ 23 million) in case of meeting the objectives established in the contract.
In exchange, Benfica agreed to buy Otamendi for 15 million euros (R $ 97 million). The duration of the players’ contracts has not been confirmed by the clubs, and the official announcement of the transfers will occur earlier in the week.
Ruben Dias is 23 years old and has the first opportunity to perform abroad. He arrives at the Etihad Stadium as City’s main reinforcement for the season. The English team considered the arrival of a defender a priority, and before the Portuguese negotiated with Koulibaly (Naples), Giménez (Atlético de Madrid) e Koundé (Seville).
Otamendi returns to Portugal, where he defended the Porto from 2010 to 2014. After six years at City, the 32-year-old Argentine will be one of the pillars of the team led by Jorge Jesús. Benfica was eliminated early from the Champions League, but is 100% in the Portugal Championship.
