The general director National Traffic Council,
Frederico de Moura Carneiro, said, on Friday (25), that the term to renew driver’s licenses expired during the pandemic of COVID-19
(Sars-Cov-2) remains suspended indefinitely. The information was questioned during an interview with Record’s ‘Live JR’ program.
“We had a measure that interrupted the expiration dates of the CNH
since February 29 due to the decree of the state of public calamity. All the Detrans of the 27 Federation Units were paralyzed. The drivers couldn’t continue, ”said the CEO.
He also said that in some states, the renewal situation is already clear. “Some states are already normalized, but as long as there is a Detran that is not working 100%, we cannot revoke this interruption,” he said.
Carneiro also defended the extension of the validity of the National Driver’s License, from five to ten years. It considers that the proposal approved by the Congress
follow the evolution of drivers’ health conditions.
“From 18 to 50 years old, the driver does not develop diseases that compromise the ability to drive a vehicle. After 40, the sight begins to engage more, ”he said.
