The United Kingdom recorded 6,634 new cases of Covid-19 in one day on Thursday (24), breaking a new daily record for infections, according to the British health agency.
On Tuesday (22), the government increased the level of pandemic risk from three to four, on a scale that rises to five. On the same day, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new restrictions, including the closure of all pubs, bars and restaurants in England at 10pm.
In the past two weeks, six of Europe’s largest countries, including the UK, have seen the daily number of new cases double. They are: Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has shown concern in recent days about a second wave of the pandemic on the European continent.
In Brazil, this Friday there were 31,129 new cases in 24 hours, according to the vehicle consortium. In total, the country has registered 4,660,368 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.
Worldwide, there are more than 32.273 million cases in 235 countries and more than 983,000 deaths from coronavirus, according to the Johns Hopkins University panel.
The new restrictions in the UK came into effect on Thursday (24). In addition to the early closure of bars and restaurants, weddings and funerals can only take place with a maximum of 15 and 30 people, respectively.
After recently asking workers to return to offices to boost urban centers, the British government had to change course and asked workers to return to work from home.
The country has increased local restrictions in recent weeks and Johnson hopes to use only a new national lockdown as a last resort, which would have devastating consequences for an economy already hard hit.
