CBF says Flamengo has ‘enough squad’ and confirms match against Palmeiras on Sunday

CBF decided Thursday that it will not comply with the request for postponement of Flamengo for the departure of this weekend by brazilian championship, before Palms, even with the COVID-19 outbreak that affected red and black players, coaching staff and leaders.

According to CBF, in a document signed by its director of competitions, Manoel Flores, the club has 34 registered athletes and can still add six more. There are currently 16 infected players in red-black, in addition to coach Domènec Torrent and members of the board.

“We understand the reasons and grounds for your request to postpone the match that will be played next Sunday, against the Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, but we inform that it will not be possible to comply with it,” says the CBF document.

“Even with the positive result from its athletes, the club has enough staff to carry out the match,” he completes.

Flamengo arrived this Thursday with a request for emergency relief in the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) postpone the match against Palmeiras, scheduled for this Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasilia time), for the Brazilian Championship.

Also according to Fla, only 12 athletes are available to take the field against Palmeiras, three of whom are goalkeepers, and there are only nine line players left.

According to Walter Feldman, CBF Secretary General, it takes 13 athletes for the game to be played.
