The Federal Police launched Operation Crassa on the morning of Thursday 24 to dismantle a criminal organization dedicated to the illegal exploitation and trade of diamonds extracted illegally from the Roosevelt Indigenous Land in Rondônia.
About 150 agents are executing 53 search and seizure orders in the Federal District and in seven states: Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Piauí, Roraima, São Paulo. The orders were issued by the 3rd Criminal Court of Rondônia, which also determined the seizure of the properties under investigation.
Investigations began in 2018 after the flagrant arrest of three people with various diamonds. The group had gone from São Paulo to Rondônia to buy the stones, according to the investigation. At the time, the trio admitted that the diamonds were from the Roosevelt Reserve, the corporation says.
“During the investigations, the criminal scheme was successfully identified, with the participation of gold miners, indigenous leaders, gold miners, appraisers, merchants and intermediaries who establish the connection between suppliers and the national and international consumer market.” note, PF.
‘Crassa’ targets the crimes of criminal organization, usurpation of Union assets and money laundering. The name of the operation refers to the rough state of the diamonds.
The investigators indicated at the beginning of the investigations that the reference ‘Bruto’ was identified along with the contacts related to miners and intermediaries of the illegal mineral trade in the agenda of those arrested in the act.
