The government of Pernambuco announced, on Monday afternoon (21), the return of face-to-face classes in state basic education schools to October 6 for public and private schools in all regions of the state. . In the first stage, going back to school involves only the third year of high school. There are still no dates for the resumption of basic education and early childhood education. The refund will be optional and it will be up to the parents or students over 18 years of age to decide whether or not to attend the classroom activities. The distance learning model should continue to be offered.

For the entrance exams and the National Baccalaureate Exam (Enem), the return begins with the students of the last year of basic education. Then, as of October 13, classes for the second year of high school are authorized. On October 20, the plan for first-year high school students advances. Face-to-face activities will be allowed both in regular schools and in Comprehensive, Technical and Youth and Adult Education (EJA).

The resumption, therefore, will be, on October 6, for 91 thousand students. This is the number of third-year high school students in Pernambuco, according to the 2019 edition of the School Census, from the Ministry of Education (MEC). In the entire high school there are 335 thousand students. Basic education in Pernambuco has 2.1 million students.

“Of all the difficult decisions we must make, since the start of the pandemic, the return to schools was the most important. Even with the Covid-19 indicators in a consolidated decline since the end of May, only now, with the moving average of cases and deaths, in addition to requests for ICU beds, at the same level as at the beginning of April, we authorized the resumption of face-to-face classes in secondary school, ”said Governor Paulo Câmara.

The Secretary of Education of the State, Fred Amancio, said that the portfolio carried out a “broad analysis of the context to evaluate the risks and benefits of opening schools, as well as the experience and results obtained in more than 15 countries that have retaken classes during the pandemic. “. “. According to the secretary, the return must be made by schools that meet the resumption criteria established by government protocol, such as a distance of at least 1.5 meters in the classroom; installation of toilets for constant hygiene of the hands on the school environment, as well as guidelines for everyone in schools; follow-up and analysis of suspected cases.

According to the State Health Secretariat, the return to classes will be done in a planned, gradual and safe way. “The new protocols incorporate the use of a mask, social distancing and the reinforcement of personal and environmental hygiene in daily school life, in addition to monitoring and ensuring the priority of the school community for testing,” he said. A testing center for education professionals will operate, from 7 am to 3 pm, for Covid-19 exams by appointment at the headquarters of the State Department of Education, in the Várzea neighborhood, West Zone of Recife.

Students, teachers and education workers with risk factors should not return to the face-to-face model, according to the Secretary of Health. “We will examine all those who show symptoms of Covid-19 as well as their close contacts and family members,” André said. Long. “There are many successful cases and countries that managed to return to school without new outbreaks. Those that managed to do so observed a sustained flattening of the epidemiological curve, as is our case. Since July, we have been sustaining a drop in the numbers,” he added.

Recent studies carried out in England, Australia and Spain, which suggest that children have a limited role in the transmission of the new coronavirus, were cited by the Ministry of Health to justify the return. “Waiting for the pandemic to pass would be to deny the reality of the need to live with the disease. It would also go against the positive evidence around the world. We must also bear in mind that, with the resumption of activities, many children and teenagers have already left home and circulating in other environments, such as shopping malls, parks and beaches, ”Longo pointed out.

The Secretary of Planning and Management, Alexandre Rebêlo, highlighted the fall of three important indicators for the decision to resume face-to-face classes: number of cases, number of deaths and demand for ICU beds. “The indices have been falling since June and in September the trend continues. It is the fourth consecutive month of reduction, “he said.

Orientation materials, such as posters and banners for social media, will be distributed to all 1,060 public schools in the state. “High school classrooms, which typically have between 40 and 45 students, will have about 20 students. Hand hygiene totems will be installed at school entrances. We are also installing more toilets in schools. In addition, we deliver thermometers and more than 30 thousand masks (acrylic face shield). Masks will be given to students and professionals so that they can use them in the day-to-day running of the schools, ”explained Fred Amancio.

The secretary stressed that the biggest change that is needed will be in the behavior of the community. “We could install 20 new toilets in a certain school, but if the student does not have the habit of washing their hands, this investment will be in vain. The great gain goes through the participation of everyone in the school, including parents,” he emphasized.

In relation to municipal schools, the Ministry of Education indicated that the municipalities will be consulted for the construction of the plan to return to basic education and early childhood education. At this first moment, as the resumption is only for high school, it does not involve the municipal school system of Pernambuco. “When we are discussing the return of primary and early childhood education, we will have constant contact with the municipalities,” he said.

Noronha

Fernando de Noronha’s schools begin to return to classes in the classroom this Tuesday (22), being the first educational units in Pernambuco to reopen the classrooms. The archipelago has two schools, both run by the state school system. In total, there are 619 students enrolled, from kindergarten through high school.

The return will be gradual, being the first high school class, and on September 29 the classes from sixth to ninth year will return. The first graders will return on October 6th. In order to adapt the Reference School in Primary and Secondary Education (Erem) Archipelago to the security protocol for the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, a series of adaptations were made in the facilities.

Among the changes in the structure of the school in Fernando de Noronha are the exchange of smaller classrooms for larger classrooms, the installation of toilets and the placement of alcohol gel in common spaces. Rooms are 1.5 meters apart between chairs, reducing the ability to ensure social distance. Classes that had between 30 and 40 students will have 12. In addition to these modifications, three masks will be distributed to each student and face shields for teachers.

For the decision, he weighed the fact that Fernando de Noronha has not registered the community transmission of the virus – from one inhabitant to another – since April. The resumption begins at the Archipelago School, where 402 students study. Those enrolled in the high school grades will return to class this week, while elementary students in the following weeks. Primary classes span both the initial five years and the final four years.

The resumption of face-to-face activities for the little ones will begin on October 13, at the Bem-Me-Quer Integrated Center for Early Childhood Education, with 217 boys and girls enrolled in early childhood education and daycare. In the first week, preschool and garden. The second will benefit the nursery. “It is the first time that the sector education protocol will be put into practice in our schools. The return to face-to-face classes on the island will be followed with special attention, as it will help us to understand the process even more,” said the Secretary of State of Education.
